Israel military: Probe shows no violations in Gaza

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says its internal investigations shows it did not violate international law during its recent war in Gaza.

The military says it maintained "high professional and moral level" against an enemy that "aimed to terrorize Israeli civilians while taking cover amid uninvolved civilians in the Gaza Strip and using them as human shields."

A former U.N. chief prosecutor for war crimes, Richard Goldstone, recently was appointed to head a U.N. investigation into atrocities allegedly committed during Israel's three-week war against Gaza's Hamas rulers.

The investigation called by the U.N.'s Human Rights Council was only supposed to look at Israeli conduct. But Goldstone didn't accept the assignment until the mandate was changed to also examine Palestinian actions.

  1. I believe that the U.N. has a extremely hard situation on their hands. They don't want to "steo on anyone's toes" for lack a better term, howver they have to investigate this delicate situation. On one side The Israelis are investigating Hamas leaders who are terrorizing the people and on the other the Hamas feel what they are doing is right and may be threatened by The U.N.'s presence and may go out and do another terror attack on the people. I think that this entire situation is very delicate and needs to be handled with care.
